We finally are going to get to Glacier National Park, I can't believe it is really happening. It wasn't far from Great Falls, but the road was just a two lane highway, going up into the mountains. We stopped by the side of the road to get some pictures of wild flowers and while I was laying on the ground taking pictures, the Red Bus went by. We had that scheduled for Saturday. I have found a short hike up near Many Glacier - didn't want to do anything too strenuous with the altitude here. We stopped a couple of times on the way up - there are certainly a lot of windmills out here - I assume there are also cattle, but just see the fences and no cows.
We checked into the St Mary Lodge on the east side of the Park. I remembered to bring my Senior Pass so we could come and go as we please into the park. After we got settled in our cabin, we took a drive into the Park on the Going to the Sun Road. The scenery is awe inspiring and the pictures don't do it justice. The road is like the Blue Ridge Parkway so you don't drive fast - but you really don't want to since you are so busy looking at all the beautiful sights. We traveled past the west end of Saint Mary's Lake and then turned around and came back to have dinner at the Lodge.
I didn't feel really hungry at dinner so I just had a glass of wine and some seared tuna, Tom made some crack about it not really being a seafood area. Tom had booked us into a small cabin next to a stream for the first two days there. It was cute and quaint and cozy. After dinner, we sat outside looking at Chief Mountain and watched the sun go down and the moon come up.
